Music for the “Soul”

Being a teacher myself when I heard the story of Amos Lee I was instantly intrigued…as I’ve had the dream he is living.  Amos Lee is one of those musicians that has it all, the voice, the skills, the attitude, the story, and the love of his craft.  He is signed to the Blue Note label, which is also the home of Norah Jones, but these two could be no different.  For Lee, he sounds perfect with just his acoustic guitar (Black River, Soul Suckers) and soul-filled voice, and can turn back time when he is backed by his full band.  He is a modern-day James Taylor, well, James never went away, but you get the point!  He released his self-titled major label debut in March of 2005 and has somehow manged to quietly sell over 500,000 copies since then.  Since that release Amos as been a hard working man, touring extensively including a stint with the legend Bob Dylan, and has appeared on The Today Show, Conan O’Brien, and with Jay Leno.

Amos plans release his second full length album, dubbed “Supply and Demand” in October of 2006 and has placed a few cuts on his myspace page http://myspace.com/amosleeofficial and I highly recommend heading there and giving them a listen.  This is a true to himself artist who deserves recognition for the gift his songs give listeners.  To anybody who loves acoustic, soul, folk songs, then Amos Lee truly is music for the “Soul”.

I was just channel surfing and came across a live performance of Amos Lee on PBS’ Austin City Limits. It was great to watch…..complete with a few nice jam sessions. I hope i can find a recording of this on the net soon.
